From Ballads to Bangers: Tate McRae Lights up Madison Square Garden

From the opening act to the final encore, Tate McRae had her fans on their feet with her singing, dancing, and stage presence, her Miss Possessive tour leaving an undeniable mark on Madison Square Garden in New York earlier this month and turning the concert into an unforgettable experience.

The New York City shows, held by Tate McRae on September 3 and 4, were so successful that she will return for one more performance on October 18. The crowd couldn’t get enough of hits like “2 Hands,” “Guilt Conscious,” “Dear God,” “Revolving Door,” “Bloodonmyhands,” and “Sports Car,” singing along to every lyric and dancing throughout the entire performance.

This isn’t just the start of McRae’s career: in fact, she has always been a long standout figure in the dance world. McRae has won many titles such as Mini Best Female Dancer award at The Dance Awards in 2013, and competed in the popular dance reality television show, So You Think You Can Dance, being the first Canadian ever to be a finalist in 2016. Tate’s dance journey began with ballet, but over the years, she has become extremely versatile, incorporating hip hop and jazz into her routines. At 16, McRae decided to move beyond her dance roots to pursue her music. Her first single, “One Day,” became a YouTube sensation in 2017, attracting the attention of multiple record labels.

Since then, McRae has released numerous hits, including “Greedy,” which surpassed 1.9 billion streams in 2025. This year, she also won her first MTV VMA for Song of the Summer with “Just Keep Watching.” Her ability to build such a large fan base at the young age of twenty-two is truly extraordinary. Selling out three nights at Madison Square Garden marks one of the first major milestones in this young artists career.

McRae’s entire concert production was on point. The lighting, dancing, and visuals matched every song she performed, creating an atmosphere that pulled the audience deeper into each moment. From moody spotlights during her ballads to explosive colors and choreography in her upbeat tracks, every detail was crafted to elevate the emotion of the music. Her choreographer, Sean Bankhead, has done such a good job with the dances that fans around the world have learned her routines and shared them on TikTok and Instagram. On top of that, her bold yet effortless costumes have become iconic, embraced by many dedicated supporters everywhere.

“She proved why she’s one of the most exciting performers right now,” Hilli Serok (’29), a fan of McRae, said.

Tate McRae’s sold-out shows at Madison Square Garden highlight just how far she has come since her dance beginnings. With her talent, dedication, and connection with fans, McRae is shaping the future of pop music and establishing herself as a lasting influence in the industry.
