THS Teachers’ New Year’s Resolutions for 2026

THS Teachers’ New Year’s Resolutions for 2026

With the fresh start of 2026, many people are anticipating what the new year has in store for them. As students make resolutions about grades, sleep, or social lives, teachers are also entering the new year with goals of their very own. Below are the New Year’s resolutions of some THS teachers, ranging from goals in health to personal hobbies and interests.

APUSH and AP US Government teacher Mr. Hegarty shares that this year, he wants to work on improving his posture. Having to spend much of his time lecturing in a classroom, he aims to be more intentional about how he stands and moves throughout the day.

If you know Mr. Hegarty, you probably know Mr. Toale—often found visiting the classroom during lunch periods or APUSH lectures. As for his New Year’s resolution, he describes a newfound hobby of baking, stating that in 2026 he wishes to frequently bake his own bread.

For Chinese teacher Ms. Sung, creating small and reachable goals was an important part of forming her New Year’s resolutions. Her goals include going to sleep a bit earlier each day, helping others on a daily basis, taking good care of herself, and finding ways to spend more time with her family. By setting manageable goals, she hopes to make meaningful progress throughout the age.

One goal that seemed to be especially popular among teachers was to take better care of their health. AP Calc AB and Algebra 2/Trig Honors teacher Mr. Moreng states that he wishes to “drink more water” in the new year, focusing on the small, consistent habits. Similarly, French teacher Madame Williams expresses a desire to make healthier lunches, aiming to fill her routine with more nutritious meals.

English teacher Ms. Hampson shows similar interests, stating that she wishes to “take her health more seriously” this year. During the school year, she feels that she does not get enough sleep or exercise frequently. Accordingly, she hopes to focus more on improving her diet and increasing exercise in her life.

Biology teacher Mr. Gagliardotto shares that his goal is to go to the gym five days a week—in fact, you may have noticed him spending the hours after school at the THS Fitness Center. “It’s nice to be able to see students there sometimes,” he adds.

Mr. DiGregorio, who can often be found engaging with students in the school library, describes the importance of being a good influence on students as an educator, stating, “I need to be more conscious of the effect I’m having on others and that my effect needs to be a strengthening one [for students].”

To end off the list of resolutions, The Echo advisor Mr. Whitehead shares that his goals this year are to “eat cleaner, write more, exercise more, and spend more time in the great outdoors.”

While it may be difficult to keep up with New Year’s resolutions, especially with everything that keeps teachers and students alike busy and overwhelmed, it’s a great idea to set up goals that work towards self-improvement. Whether it be something small and reachable or large and challenging, consider setting up a resolution of your own to start off the year with a personal goal in mind!
