Lawns, parks, and golf courses around the world may be cut at a much faster rate later next year. During October 21 to October 24, Honda unveiled their state of the art technological advancement in the realm of lawn care and lawn management. These strides and technological advances may result in the creation of more jobs, an environment that is closer to net zero carbon emissions, and safer parks for people to enjoy.
The Equip Expedition took place two weeks ago, where companies showed off their outdoor equipment at the trade show. However, one piece of outdoor heavy machinery stood out . During the trade show, Honda unveiled their two state of the art professional lawn mowers, which will change the entire landscape of the industry (literally). The two new professional lawn mowers will be in the ProZison lawn mower series.
Honda has also been trying to trim its carbon footprint around the globe, to meet the self-made goal to reach carbon neutrality by the year of 2050, according to Honda’s website. Gas-powered lawn mowers and landscaping equipment make up a staggering five percent of all US carbon emissions, according to the EPA. To fulfill its commitment to this goal, these ProZison lawn mowers will be fully electric. Powered by innovation and five electric motors, 19.2kW of energy is poured to cutting the grass, according to Honda.
The arrival of this product and technology have the potential to lead to job growth. Honda states that the lawn mower will be built in Swepville, North Carolina. The materials and parts will be imported around the world, which may lead to larger trade productivity with many other countries and create a global system benefiting many.
Safety will be a top priority of these lawn mowers. According to the National Association of Landscaping, 70,000 injuries are a result of lawn mowing. Honda ProZison lawnmowers will include sensors that will stop immediately when there is an obstacle or person in its path and will slow down when there are obstacles nearby. The ProZison lawn mower will contain anti-slip properties allowing for it to cut grass even on a 15% incline. Emergency stop capabilities are installed on the lawn mowers for additional security. The manual version of the lawn mower will cost $33,000 and the autonomous version cost has not been specified yet.
Additionally, these lawn mowers have features that make them easily controllable. The ProZison lawn mower will incorporate four LiDar sensors (sensors map out its surroundings by using lasers) and four radar sensors. The GNSS (Global Navigation System) will incorporate GPS (Global Positioning System) for tracking and direction. The ProZison autonomous will be able to be controlled simply by your phone. The routes the lawn mower takes could be saved to be used in the future again and is accurate up to 3 cm, according to Honda. The new advanced technology will allow for safer and easier landscaping.
Most importantly, how do the lawnmowers perform? Designed with purpose and endurance, the lawn mowers have many extremely useful features. It performs cutting with a 60-inch cut width, which allows for more efficient and faster trimming. The cutting precision can be achieved by three pairs of 21-inch twin blades that will improve clipping of the lawn. The speed of the blades can also be controlled by the owner between two settings. In order to protect the precious grass from the dreaded wheels of lawn mowers, the wheels will no longer be ordinary wheels; instead, anti-scalp wheels are installed. These wheels will protect the grass for the work ahead of them. The lawn mower frame will be made of HSLA steel. Additionally, the lawn mower is made with full suspension, which allows it to easily traverse hills and slopes. Last but not least, a load control system is installed on the lawn mower to control the speed and the cut quality, according to Honda’s website.
As these lawn mowers roll off the production lines into your parks, look at them slowly. Observe the beauty, the intricacy, and the small details. These small details define what the lawn mower is, like how small details define who people see you as. Take a walk outside and see what you can do to innovate the world in the future.
