Homemade IKEA Meatballs

Kosei Dohi, Staff Writer

IKEA meatballs are delicious. For me, they are the source of many great childhood memories. Today, I”ll show you how to make your very own IKEA style meatballs.

Ingredients:

Flour

Butter

Ground beef

Ground pork

Salt

Potatoes

Bread crumbs

1-2 Egg

Cranberry sauce

Scallions

Salt and Pepper

Onions

Mustard

1. Meatballs

  • Chop up and sautee some finely chopped onions
  • In a mixing bowl, add your ground pork,  ground beef, sauteed onions, mustard, eggs, milk, and bread crumbs
  • Mix thoroughly
  • Form meatballs onto a baking tray
  • Bake for 30-40 minutes at 400 degrees

2. Mashed potatoes

  • Peel, cut, and boil potatoes.
  • After they are very soft (they should break when you press on them), drain them and put them back in the same cooking pan. Smash the potatoes and add milk and garlic. Butter is optional.

3. Sauce

  • Start by making a roux. A roux consists of melted butter and flour. It should have a light brown color once simmered for 4 minutes.
  • Add your beef broth or milk to the roux and mix until the desired consistency. Heavy cream is optional

4. Plate

  • Plate everything and you’re done! I personally like to garnish with scallions, but this is optional.
