It is safe to say that when Squid Game was released in September 2021, the show created a cultural phenomenon. From the iconic dalgona candy to real-life imitations of “Red Light Green Light,” the drama was able to introduce Korean culture into the western world. The Korean drama Squid Game follows the main character, Gi-Hun, as he competes against hundreds of other people in childhood games. The captivating plot and the interesting setting of the scenes were just some of the reasons why Squid Game received praise.

Due to the fact that most shows and dramas in South Korea run only for one season, many anticipated whether that was going to be the case for Squid Game. Fortunately, last Monday, the director of the show announced that season 2 was on its way. The director, Hwang Dong-hyuk, said that its popularity left him no choice but to create a second season.

“Gi-Hun will come back, and he will do something for the world,” announced Hwang.

Lee Jung Jae, the actor who played Gi-Hun, is most likely going to return in season 2. Furthermore, there are speculations that other actors and actresses are going to return to play a part as a flashback. Actresses such as Jung Ho-yeon (Kang Sae Byeok) are making fans wait due to the fact that her appearance in season 2 is up in the air. Gong Yoo’s appearance as a cameo also surprised many viewers. Therefore, if he makes a sudden appearance in season 2, fans would be more surprised than ever. Finally, let’s hope that the VIPs do a better job if they end up returning.

Many fans predict that Gi-Hun will return to the island (with his iconic red hair) to fight against the system or perhaps even be part of the system itself. As of right now, with the production team hard at work, the best thing that fans can do is to patiently wait. Meanwhile, check out other shows like Kingdom or Crash Landing On You on Netflix.
