Last Monday, the Met Gala—the most iconic night of the year for fashion—took place at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City. This fundraising event celebrates the opening of a new exhibition, and this year’s exhibit presents “Karl Lagerfeld: A Line of Beauty.” Lagerfeld, the German fashion designer, worked as the creative director for Chanel. While most of the attendants dressed to honor Lagerfeld, others instead aimed to insult him. In fact, some celebrities, including Blake Lively who is known for her style at the Met Gala events, even refused to attend. As the invitation list was exclusive, only the top A-list celebrities were invited to come. Here’s a review of the some of the best looks from the event:

Dua Lipa:

One of my favorite looks of the night. As she stuck to the theme with the Chanel tweed, natural makeup, and a beautiful ball gown, Dua Lipa looked absolutely stunning.

Anne Hathaway:

While her dress was very intricate, Anne stuck to the theme and was able to deliver a beautiful appearance. I love the contrast between the white and the gold accents.

Doja Cat:

Although not one of my preferred presentations, I appreciate the creativity of Doja’s outfit. Doja completely embraced a dress that was related to Karl Lagerfeld’s cat. It’s well-known that Karl Lagerfeld loved his cat like a child and always pampering her. He would post on Instagram a picture of his cat, Choupette, on his private jet.

Anok Yai:

WOW! Possibly my favorite dress of the night. The details of this outfit are absolutely jaw-dropping. Anok looked like a seashell goddess as she strutted across the Met Gala carpet.

Kim Kardashian:

Honestly, I have mixed feelings about this dress. Kim looked beautiful, but the pearls were not a good addition to her outfit. Furthermore, I’m not a fan of the necklace she wore as a complement to the dress. Its outlook was too dark and didn’t go well with her overall appearance. Kim has presented better outfits in the previous years, and she definitely did not match her look for the “camp” theme in 2019.

Jennie Ruby Jane:

I love this dress. The vintage Chanel elements were absolutely stunning. The black stockings and the Chanel rose further improved the outfit.

Jennifer Lopez:

Looking beautiful as always, I really liked JLo’s look. Her dress was relatively simple compared to others, but her headpiece topped off her appearance.

Cardi B:

Cardi B always outdoes herself at the Met. This time, with two dresses, her first one was a strapless pink-jeweled dress with a feather headdress, which she was seen wearing as she left  her hotel. For the Gala, I loved her skirt with the large black Chanel flowers, but didn’t like the top of the dress. The tie worsened the vibe for me; I think it was unnecessary.

Rihanna:

I know this may be an unpopular opinion, but I loved Rihanna’s look. I didn’t love the flowers originally covering her, but when she unveiled her dress along with her baby bump, it became iconic. Her dress was not too extravagant but far from boring.

Kendall Jenner:

I have loved Kendall’s outfits in the past, but I didn’t particularly like her appearance much this year. I wasn’t a fan of  the black sparkles combined with the bow tie, or the ballet-looking leotard. People have made jokes online that she looked like Kris Jenner in the “krissed” videos.

Jared Leto:

Whoa. This is definitely the most creative look of the night. Supposedly, this outfit had been in the process of being made for the past year. Leto may have taken the cat role a little too seriously….

Bad Bunny:

Compared to some of the men who were seen wearing the common black-and-white tuxedos, Bad Bunny rocked his look. In a customized Chanel tweed suit paired with white flowers, he stuck with the theme and looked great. It’s definitely one of my favorite looks of the night.

Lily Collins:

While I appreciate the meaning behind her dress, as she “dragged” Karl on the floor, I did not admire her look much. She didn’t really stick to the theme, other than insulting Karl.

While this year’s looks were interesting and entertaining, I missed seeing Selena Gomez, Taylor Swift, Lady Gaga, Justin Bieber, Zendaya, and a few other regulars of the Met Gala. It’s now time for us to wait for next year’s theme to be announced….
