BTS member Jungkook (정국) is starting to push himself further into his career from being just a famous idol in Korea to an international superstar. What songs has he produced this year and what does he plan to do next?
BTS is a K-Pop group that debuted in 2013 and gained fame internationally, breaking all records including the most sold out tickets in 24 hours and most viewed YouTube video in 24 hours. Their band name, BTS, stands for Bangtan Sonyeondan (방탄소년단) which translates to Bulletproof Boy Scouts. This band has amassed more than 90 million fans worldwide, making it one of the most popular bands in the world. The youngest member in this group is Jungkook, who is known to excel at everything he attempts. He is one of the main vocalists in this band. However, South Korea has a mandated military law that makes all men in South Korea go to the army to train between the ages of 18 and 35 for approximately two years. This year, many of the members went off to do their military service,which left Jungkook one of the only members left. During the absence of his members, Jungkook decided to take up a solo career and try making his own songs.
Jungkook’s first single, “Seven” feat. Latto, was released on July 14, 2023. The song was a big hit this summer and broke the record for the fastest time to amass nine million streams on Spotify. The song also stayed at No. one on the Billboard Global 200 for seven weeks in a row before settling down. The title of the song was inspired by the seven members of BTS. Currently, the song’s music video has more than 250 million views on YouTube. This music video was made by Hybe Label, a company that helps create Kpop videos and interviews with Korean celebrities. This debut song for him was a massive success and helped make his name known to the world.
Jungkook’s most recent single, “3D” feat. Jack Harlow, was released on September 29, 2023, and has currently hit the Global Charts at a respectable 33rd place. His song was created to convey the message that texting someone through the phone is not the same as meeting someone in person. It goes beyond the first and second dimensions by going into the third dimension, also known as 3D. According to J-14.com, Jungkook felt nervous after making his song Seven. “I felt a bit of pressure having received so much love with ‘Seven,’ but it also gave me a big boost of courage to take on a new challenge,” Jungkook said. “I’ll keep working hard to continue to share great music in the future.” While Jungkook’s collaboration with Jack Harlow came as a surprise to many, Jungkook himself found it a great experience to do this song with Jack Harlow. “I’m ready to show a different side of myself that I hadn’t shown with ‘Seven.’” Jungkook said. By the end of this year, he is planning on releasing an album with all of his recent releases.
Jungkook has made a name for himself, not only by being in the legendary band BTS, but by also producing record-breaking songs like “Seven” and “3D”.
