Samsung released the new Galaxy S24 series on January 31 in the United States, the United Kingdom, and Australia. Its new S24 series has attracted countless customers’ attention with its protective screen resistant to scratches, water, and dust. However, what has attracted the most attention are the five new features of the S24 series: Circle to Search, Live Translate, Note Assist, Chat Assist, and Camera AI.
To start off, the Circle to Search feature is an interesting addition to the convenient elements of Galaxy phones, described by Samsung’s website as “a new way to search.” Now, objects can be searched without going into a search engine simply by circling the object users want to search on the screen either with the S Pen or with their fingers. This is an extremely convenient feature for many Galaxy users as it is a search feature that is even easier than Google Lens, which requires users to take pictures of an item to search for it.
Next is the Live Translate feature. In its introduction to this new feature, Galaxy’s website claims that Live Translate can “break down language barriers over the phone or texting.” This newly added component of the S24 series allows better communication between people speaking different languages. One key action that can be done via Live Translate is being able to translate in real-time while calling somebody on the phone. By tapping on Call Assist and then Live Translation during a call, the user can enable a real-time translation of the conversation. Many adjustments can be made depending on the situation, such as one’s skill in a language, and what languages one speaks. Some key arrangements that are available are the language input and output as well as the Galaxy AI’s voice and speech rate. This can be extremely helpful during a trip to a foreign country in the sense that “you essentially have your own personal translator, which will make multilingual communication easier.”
The third feature is Note Assist, which has the ability to abstract big blocks of text into smaller parts and make it easier to understand. According to Samsung’s website, one’s writing is formatted by AI “into a clear, easy-to-review summary.” This is a revolutionary addition to the Galaxy S24 series from the S23, as it can prevent students from spending countless hours on taking notes and organizing them. This can increase the efficiency of studying for tests and quizzes as well as the process of determining information. Some of the major parts of this feature include auto-formation, summarization, and translation.
The next is the Chat Assist feature. This AI feature can provide users with better vocabulary and tones depending on the situation of their writing. It suggests the words that best fit the situation with casual or formal tones that can be helpful when writing emails or text messages. This feature allows users to convey what exactly they want to say without changing the tone or mood of the message.
The last feature is Camera AI. In Camera AI, there are two aspects: the Super HDR and Generative Edit. According to the Galaxy S24 website, with Super HDR, users can “instantly see what [their] super-vivid pics and videos will look like before [they] take them.” This is an extremely convenient feature since there is no need for the users to physically take pictures before the AI shows the results. The other part of the Camera AI is the Generative Edit. Galaxy describes this editing feature as one that cleverly uses AI in “relocating objects and intelligently filling in empty spaces” for users to create the image they want. This can be an important tool for influencers and people who post on their social media often since it allows them to edit their photos into the picture they want.
Overall, the new features of the Samsung Galaxy S24—especially the AI features— showcase new technologies that challenge the range of convenience set by previous phone features. So, make sure to check it out if you are interested.
