Nothing is better than the first bite of a fresh, warm cookie, and now, after years of enviously watching people take that first bite of Crumbl Cookies, Bergen County faces a sweet revolution as Crumbl opens a location in Paramus.
In 2017, Crumbl Cookies was started as a single-location cookie shop by cousins Jason McGowan and Sawyer Hemsley in Logan, Utah. The two dreamed of the perfect chocolate chip cookie and went above and beyond that goal. Now, with over 1,000 locations in two countries, it is the fastest-growing cookie company in the U.S., according to their web site.
Every week, Crumbl cycles its menu to feature new and unique flavors packed into cookies. Its crazy ideas have ranged from an everything bagel cookie to a Banoffee Pie, and the frequently changing menu led to the company’s explosion online. Starting in 2021, people would buy and review the cookies of the week, and since the menu is constantly changing, no review is similar to the last. People were hooked on the idea of Crumbl and obsessed with getting their hands on a six-pack.
Locations seemed to open everywhere except Bergen County, so the citizens of Bergen County jealously waited their turn.
“Ever since seeing Crumbl on TikTok, I have wanted to try it, but there were no locations nearby,” Ella Plotkin (’27) said.
That was until Friday, September 6, when Crumbl opened its new location in Bergen Town Center, Paramus. People rushed to the store, hoping to get their hands on the legendary six-pack, but were faced with complete chaos.
“My friends and I were super excited for the opening of the location near us, so we decided to go get some cookies on Saturday night,” Parshav Jain (’26) said. “When we got there, there was a line far out the door, and when we asked people how long they had been waiting, some said well over two hours. The line was so intense that police patrolled it. Of course, it was not Crumbl’s fault, but we were still very disappointed in the line, so we did not wait for the cookies.”
Jain wasn’t the only one put off by the wait.
“I heard about the long line, so I decided I will wait to go until the hype cools down and the store no longer faces waiting times,” Jenna Yanofsky (’26) said.
Perhaps the wait times will abate next month. Crumbl revealed that another location will open in Montvale on October 31. Maybe some Bergen County citizens will choose to go to that location, which will help clear the line in Paramus.
Until then, although the line is a bitter wait, it may be worth it for the sweet treat of a Crumbl Cookie. So, go check out the new location and flavors of the week in Bergen Town Center.
