Get ready for the white-out—no, not the smelly goop you paint on papers to fix errors. This year’s Pep Rally, which takes place today, Friday, September 27, will feature everyone dressed in white to highlight our Glow-in-the-Dark theme.
The Pep Rally is one of many traditions at Tenafly High School. Each varsity team sport creates its own unique routine to perform at the Pep Rally in front of the whole school. Each sport takes turns showcasing its team, and whether it be a short skit or a dance routine, the idea is to raise school spirit for the season. The fall sports teams this year are Varsity Boys and Girls Soccer, Football, Cross Country, Girls Tennis, Girls Volleyball, and Cheerleading. The Pep Rally will be hosted by the S.O. and your very own student emcees Grace Kim (’25) and Adar Serok (’25)!
The S.O. puts a lot of work into setting up school-wide events, making the Pep Rally possible. It plans a school-wide spirit week leading up to the Pep Rally by having students dress up with a new theme each day. On Monday, it was Frat Boys; Tuesday, favorite team’s jersey; Wednesday, Country v.s. Country Club; Thursday, Throwback; and Friday, white out. The S.O. also puts a lot of work into decorating the gym for the Pep Rally including a huge balloon arch, according to Grace Kim, S.O. President.
“There will also be an interactive game with the audience towards the end so get excited so make sure to volunteer when we ask for volunteers!” Kim said.
On Friday, September 27th, the day schedule will be different and class periods will all be slightly shortened to make time for the Pep Rally.
Students will be called down into the gym by grade and sit in their grade student section. The band will play music as students pile in and MCs will hype up the students. One of the most fun parts about the day is that many students will be wearing face paint and different spirit accessories. As the theme is glow in the dark, students are encouraged to follow the ‘white out’ (all white) dress code to make the student sections look more uniform and united!
“Don’t be embarrassed to go full out because the seniors will be decked out in white!!” Kim said.
The Pep Rally is one of the most exciting events of the entire school year. Not only is it a fun excuse to miss the grind of classes, but it brings up school spirit while cheering on your friends’ performances.
“I love the Pep Rally, even though I do not play a sport in the Fall, it’s so fun to watch my friends’ performance and I’m sad this will be my last one” Anna Buchanan (‘25) said.
Many seniors agree that the Pep Rally is definitely not an event to take for granted and should be celebrated every year.
