After several long months, countless college applications submitted, and a neverending barrage of assessments, the time has finally come. On this Saturday night, January 25, 2025, Tenafly High School will host the only and only, iconic, glamorous, seniors-only Tux Show. In collaboration with Biltmore Tuxedos in Ridgewood, New Jersey, the THS Tux Show is a typical, senior-year event that allows students to wave a goodbye sign to the first semester of their senior year, known to be the most challenging semester in high school, and excitingly say hello to the second semester of their senior year, known to be the easiest semester in high school. The Tux Show itself, however, is a fashion show during which pairs of senior students, dressed up in spiffy tuxedos and elegant dresses, walk down a runway on the auditorium stage and stand in front of their parents and friends, while they listen to roasts coming from the MCs, or student judges, at their expenses. It is an event unlike any other, full of laughter and memories, held as a way to raise money for the Senior Prom in June.
In preparation for the Tux Show, each senior student pairs up with a very close friend—usually of the opposite gender—-alongside whom they’ll feel comfortable being “roasted” at the event. The roasts that the MCs announce in front of the audience are created through the help of a Google Form posted on the class’s Google Classroom page, which each student fills out with funny material about their partner. In addition, each pair of seniors picks a song, approved by the school, that they would like to be played during their spotlight moment on stage. Usually, they pick a song that they feel best represents both of their personalities, as well as their bond with each other.
Furthermore, regarding the attire of the event, most of the senior boys wear a tuxedo fitted to their measurements and handpicked by the store Biltmore Tuxedos. This explains why at the event, you can see seniors wearing tuxedos of many different colors, with a variety of styles and patterns, especially on their blazers. As for the girls, they wear a fancy dress picked and ordered by themselves.
After the Tux show, both students and parents alike celebrate the passing of this iconic, senior-year tradition. Every year, many of the senior parents have a large dinner together at the local Greek restaurant, Axia Taverna, while the students usually have dinner with their friends in the city.
Organized by both the S.O. and the senior class officers, the Tux show serves not only as a large fundraiser for the expensive Senior Prom later in the year but it also serves as a memorable way to kickstart the second semester of the senior year, filled with many other exciting traditions and lifelong memories. The Tux Show is a tradition enjoyed by anyone sitting in a seat in the auditorium and is cherished by the community of Tenafly High School. It’s fair to say that a typical senior year at THS wouldn’t be possible without the glamor of the Tux Show, so buy a ticket and come watch the one and only THS Tux Show this Saturday!
