Yesterday, on April 24, Tenafly High School welcomed dozens of new employees through its doors. Mini-Tigers swarmed the halls.
The day kicked off bright and early at 8:10 a.m. in the cafeteria, where our Mini-Tigers launched into a whirlwind of fun. From temporary tattoos and balloon animals to official staff lanyard photos with Tony the Tiger himself, these young recruits got a crash course on life at THS. Mr. Morrison and Mr. Peano welcomed each mini-employee with their very own bright orange Tenafly lanyard—because every great job starts with a badge.
Friendships blossomed instantly as the Mini-Tigers bonded over stickers and snacks, forming what might just be the most wholesome new cohort THS has ever seen. With this new crew around, teacher collaborations and lunchtime playdates are definitely on the horizon.
After a concert by the members of the THS Chamber Music Club, and with spirits high, the Mini-Tigers headed to the library for a behind-the-scenes tour of Tenafly’s legendary media and production spaces and the ever-popular IDT area. These tiny celebrities even made a cameo on the morning announcements, earning a full fifteen seconds of fame!
Later, they had a briefing with Ms. Gaugham on the origins of Tenafly, our school, and the community. With ambitions and plans for THS in mind, the mini-Tigers embarked on a voyage of discovery in the famous wooden S.S. Tiger, anchored in the left wing of the library. Their destination? Our beloved art room! Ms. Allen enthusiastically gave the Mini-Tigers an art lesson; it is clear that they will be ready to take on our students in the fall as full-time teachers!
Our beloved wing of science teachers welcomed the new Mini-Tigers, featuring Mr. Devereaux, Dinger, Ms. Chladil, Mr. White, and our head of science research, Ms. Woleslagle, in room 142. The new employees were introduced to the wonders of science at the high school, including a make-your-own orbeez DIY!
All that learning worked up an appetite, so the Mini-Tigers retreated to their future haven, the THS Faculty Lounge, where they feasted on pizza and their very own sundae bar. Sugar rush: initiated.
Recharged and ready for more, they headed to Mr. Hubbard’s Maker Space for a hands-on STEM adventure. Whether watching robots in action or building spaghetti and marshmallow towers, this activity quickly became a fan favorite.
In the culinary wing, Ms. Maginn helped the Mini-Tigers whip up delicious cookies; and while they were eager to taste their creations, photos came first. Priorities.
For the last period of the day, the Mini-Tigers traveled to everyone’s second-favorite class after lunch. Gym class was in full swing, with activities like basketball, hula hooping, badminton, and more. From dodgeball to jump roping, the Mini-Tigers got a taste of THS’s athletic offerings.
Finally, at the end of the day, the Mini-Tigers settled in for their well-earned cookies and milk. Mr. Morrison and Mr. Peano handed out official certificates and bid farewell to our newest employees (for now). Our two principals watched the Mini-Tigers go with a sense of anticipation for the fall.
Many of our wonderful teachers and staff brought their mini-mes to THS for National Bring Your Kids to Work Day. A big thank you as well to the clubs and programs that went the extra mile to welcome them—your efforts made this one of the most memorable BYKTW celebrations in THS history!
