It’s almost February, which means that the Super Bowl LII is right around the corner. The Super Bowl is the championship for the National Football League that will be televised on NBC. This year, the New England Patriots and the Philadelphia Eagles will face off for a chance to lift the Lombardi Trophy.

The Patriots, led by quarterback Tom Brady, is currently on the brink of writing history. There has not been a team since the 1999 Denver Broncos to win the Super Bowl two years in a row. The Patriots have the chance to accomplish this feat this year. With an impressive comeback against the Jacksonville Jaguars, the Patriots will only get stronger with the two-week break that will enable the players to rest. This break will benefit the Patriots, as superstars Tom Brady had stitches on his hand and Rob Gronkowski suffered a concussion. The Patriots are filled with superstars on the offensive side, but their defense is also strong. Stephon Gillmore, Kyle Van Noy, and Malcolm Butler all hold down the duties on the defensive side. With a strong defense and one of the best offenses in the league, the Patriots will walk into the Super Bowl with confidence.

“I feel that Brady will destroy the Eagles because Brady demolished the best defense in the Eagles,” said Hunter Neuman (’20). “As a Steelers fan, it is a must to go against Brady, but I can not deny his skill.”

Everyone thought the Eagles would lose to the Vikings, but the Eagles proved everyone outside of Pennsylvania wrong. To say that the Eagles crushed the Vikings is an understatement. The Eagles defeated the Vikings 38-7— an absolute blowout. The Eagles, led by quarterback Nick Foles, is running with the underdog story, as leader Carson Wentz tore his ACL. The offense has some nice supporting players: Alshon Jeffrey, Zach Ertz, and Jay Ajayi. However, it is their defense that makes the Eagles an impressive team. With Fletcher Cox, Chris Long, and Malcolm Jenkins on the defensive side, the Eagles will be another tough challenge for Tom Brady and the Patriots.

“I want the Eagles to win because everyone doubted Nick Foles, but he has been playing really well,” said Will Screer (’20). “I think that the Eagles could upset the Patriots, which would definitely be super cool. Imagine Nick Foles winning the Super Bowl over Tom Brady. I would never expect that.”

Will the Patriots reign supreme again? Experts from ESPN, NBC and FOX all believe that the Patriots are clear favorites, but that does not mean the Eagles will not try. The Eagles still have one of the best defenses in the league, and Nick Foles showed that he can lead an offense to victory.

Each team has had a major obstacle. Now everyone wants to see how each team will react and adapt.
