Is there going to be a third season of Stranger Things?

  • “FOR THE LOVE OF STEVE, DUH!” That’s what the Netflix Twitter account tweeted on December first, a month after season 2’s release. “We’re thinking it’ll be a four-season thing and then out,” Creator Ross Duffer told Vulture last year. With production beginning in April, expect the season to come out in the fall of 2018 or in early 2019.

When will it take place?

  • Season 3 jumps ahead to the summer of 1985, one reason being to keep up with the aging-child-actors dilemma. Shawn Levy—one of the shows executive producers—told Collider “We’re never going to do a storyline that pretends that the kids are younger than they are”.

What about the relationships?

  • Season 3 takes place a year later, and a lot can happen in a year, particularly when it comes to young love. “Mike and Eleven are going strong, so that’s a relationship that continues, and same with Mad Max and Lucas. But again, they’re like 13- or 14-year-old kids, so what does romance mean at that stage of life?” Levy said. “It can never be simple and stable relationships and there’s fun to that instability.” So get ready for some ups and downs, watchers; it’s gonna be a wild ride.

What’s up with Steve (AKA “Dad Steve”)?

  • Get ready for some more “Dad Steve magic.” After helping the kids with the Demodogs and the Mind Flyer in season 2, he’ll be helping out a lot in season 3. Levy admitted that they “stumbled onto a goldmine” with that storyline, and they plan on doing much more with it. Also, expect some more with the Steve-Dustin bromance.

Where’s Kali?

  • The season 2 episode “The Lost Sister” introduced the character Kali to the show. Don’t be surprised if you see her in season 3. “It feels weird to me that we wouldn’t solve [Kali’s] storyline,” Matt Duffer said. The Duffer brothers felt that the episode was extremely important to Eleven’s development and that Kali will not be forgotten going forward.

What’s gonna happen with that shadow thing that was stalking Hawkins?

  • As seen in the season 2 finale, the Mind Flyer is still shadowing Hawkins, and it’s not going anywhere. The second season ended on a nail-biting cliffhanger when the Mind Flyer was still in the Upside Down seen hanging over Hawkins Middle as the winter dance was going on. Even with the big-time jump, it is clear to see that the Mind Flyer will have a big presence in the season.

Will there be any new characters?

  • A new character, Robin, will be introduced. Ethan Hawke and Uma Thurman’s daughter Maya will be playing the role of Robin. She’s “bored with her mundane day job, she just wants a little excitement in her life…and gets more than she bargained for when she uncovers a dark secret in Hawkins,” said creators Matt and Ross Duffer.

WHO’S NEXT?

  • After the heartbreaking deaths of Barb and Bob, who’s next? Will it be a new face? An old face? Another person whose name starts with a ‘B’?! “I don’t know [who],’” Matt told Variety last year. “We have some ideas, but it’s all too early.” Bring out the tissues and ice cream—it’s gonna be a long ride.
