On September 7th, 2024, YouTuber Nikocado Avocado posted a video titled “Two Steps Ahead,” currently at 38 million views, revealing his two-year-long “villain plan.”
Nicholas Perry, A.K.A. Nikocado Avocado, was born in 1992 in Ukraine. The king of Mukbangs (an online audiovisual broadcast in which a host consumes various quantities of food while interacting with the audience, according to Wikipedia), as he names himself, posted his first YouTube video in 2016. Originally, Perry was a vegan YouTuber. However, he claimed in his 2016 “WHY I’M NO LONGER A VEGAN YOUTUBER” video that “vegans are imbalanced, hostile, militant, and mentally unstable, among the different types of groups or communities out there in the world,” suggesting vegan YouTubers are generally “mentally ill,” and therefore that he would no longer be posting under this category.
Perry’s video style has always been consistent as he wanders around for the first portion of the video and then sits in front of the camera, mukbanging everything, occasionally displaying his violin skills. Perry would constantly film with Orlin Home, his “husband, best friend, and rival,” according to fandom.com. In addition, Mr. Noodle, a green parrot who clenches on his shoulders, has prevailed throughout his videos up until 2020.
Over time, Perry gained a visible amount of weight. He weighed 411 pounds at the heaviest, according to Today.com . As his weight skyrocketed, his view count aligned. Starting from 2020, his views have not gone below a million. In fact, he is ranked one of the top five international mukbangers worth watching by TheStraitsTimes.com with 4.36 million subscribers on YouTube and 4.3 million followers on TikTok.
In “Two Steps Ahead,” Perry claimed, wearing a panda head, that he has accomplished the “biggest social experiment of [his] entire life.” During the two years, Perry has been uploading pre-recorded videos while secretly losing weight. “This has been the biggest plot twist in the history of YouTube,” @thepurpleeyedraccoon4749 commented. Besides, Mr. Noodle also made a comeback, standing next to Perry again.
“While everybody pointed and laughed at me for over-consuming food, I was in total control the entire time. In reality, people are completely absorbed with Internet personalities and obsessively watch their content. That is where a deeper level of over-consumption lies—and it’s the parallel I wanted to make,” he told NBC News. “I shaved my head so that people wouldn’t recognize me in public,” he added.
Not only that, his 8-year persona has been completely scripted: “YouTube has been a way for me to create a character and provide entertainment. What you see on camera is completely exaggerated for clicks.”
The method for his weight loss transformation remains unknown. While some claim that Ozempic, an antidiabetic medication used for the treatment of type 2 diabetes and obsesity, played a role, no concrete evidence backs it up.
No matter how he lost so much weight, the internet is relieved with his comeback. “Let’s be real. This is what we hoped for rather than facing his passing due to complications caused by his heavyweight,” commented @S-Korea on YouTube.
