Five cookie flavors that Baked by Jacob offers, some of which will be seen at the bake sale.

In recent weeks, news headlines have been scathed with the dehumanizing events that have been unfolding within Israel. As everyone has heard, Israel is going through a troubling time. With over 1,400 deaths, 3,500 injuries, and an uncountable number of aching hearts and fearful souls, the blissful lives of many civilians and people in the army have been ceased, either dead from war or no longer able to truly live as a result of fleeing for their lives. In these appalling circumstances, like many others, we felt the need to do something. We did not want to wait patiently for something to happen.

After much deliberation and coordination, along with the Tenafly High School Jewish Student Union, we will be organizing bake sales every other week, beginning this upcoming week. From raspberry rugelach, bouncy loaves of challah representing staple Jewish treats, to Cookie Monster cookies colored a bright and bold blue in support of Israel, in addition to many other delicious delicacies, the breathtaking aroma of the symphony of sweetness will dance throughout the hallways, providing many options for a quick and cheap after-school sweet. In addition, to make this sweet event even sweeter, all proceeds from this bake sale will be donated to the charity, One for Israel, which uses the donated money to help the innocent families affected by war within Israel and direct that aid toward helping them get back on their feet.

You may be wondering, what’s so special about our bake sales? In addition to donating to Israel, our bake sale also features another notable aspect that makes our treats extra special. The bake sale will feature TikTok-famous cookies from Baked by Jacob, which is an account run by eleventh grader and fellow Echo writer, Jacob Dardashti, which receives millions of views on the social media platform with 208.1K followers. If you’ve seen this on your For You Page, you’re in luck, as you will now have a chance to try them. ALL proceeds will be given to One for Israel, which uses the money donated to provide civilians with aid to get back on their feet.

With the help of the Jewish Student Union, the Combating Anti-Semitism Club, and much additional outside help, we have a monetary goal of around $300 per sale set to provide a sense of direction as to how we can change the most number of lives within Israel as possible. We also set forth this goal as a way of making a difference in the Tenafly High School community. We want to show the students of THS that by doing a good deed in a community of like-minded people, we would ultimately be maximizing the impact of the funds raised and bringing about positive change by addressing these immediate needs in the world.

We are so thankful to have the opportunity to do something for Israel, and luckily, you can help too. Currently, Israeli unity is quite strong and promotes a large sense of togetherness. Thus, we want to make this an inclusive experience and help out the Israeli way. Whether you are Israeli, Jewish, or neither, we want to offer up this as an opportunity for everyone to help out Israel and contribute to the bake sale. Between providing baked goods for the bake sales, helping set up our bake sale to be the best-looking, or just spreading the word, there are many ways you can contribute to making our bake sales the best they can be. If you are interested in helping, please reach out to [email protected] or [email protected]; we would love for you to help us with this cause!

Even if you are simply purchasing a delicious after-school snack, any support is appreciated! Come find our drool-worthy Mitzvah Munchies for the first time—and not the last!—in front of the PITT at 3:15 PM on Thursday, October 26, 2023! Bring some friends, spread the love, enjoy some goodies, and support Israel in this sweet event.
