The Ultimate Guide to the Mean Girls Musical Adaptation

The Ultimate Guide to the Mean Girls Musical Adaptation

It has come at last. The big release everyone has been waiting for finally arrived in theaters on January 12, 2024. Mean Girls, the adaptation of the 2017 Mean Girls musical, previously starring Sabrina Carpenter, is now released as a movie starring previous actors from the Mean Girls movie that premiered in 2003, such as Tina Fey and Tim Meadows. So, instead of flipping through websites trying to find more information about this musical adaptation, as Regina George says, “get in loser” because we’re covering all the questions and answers about the rising reboot of the original movie.

What is Mean Girls even about?

Good question. To start off, Mean Girls tells the humor-filled and coming-of-age story about a girl named Cady Heron, who has been homeschooled her whole life in Africa. Once Cady and her family move to the United States, she is exposed to the delights and horrors of a public high school. Soon after, Cady quickly learns the importance of cliques and the laws of obtaining, as well as maintaining, popularity.

However, since this movie follows the previous Mean Girls movie story line but also incorporates similar aspects of the musical that premiered in 2017, the film will incorporate lots of musical elements and similar dialogue from both the movie and musical. However, Tina Fey recently explained how “the songs are sounding really more kinda pop” compared to the previous musical, when she appeared on a late night show with Seth Meyers.

What is the cast for the new Mean Girls

The film is led by Angourie Rice, playing Cady Heron, a rising Australian actress. One recent role she has taken on was in Tom Holland’s Spiderman trilogy, playing Betty Brant. Other main characters include Regina George, played by Renee Rapp, while Christopher Bricey will play the character Aaraon Samuels. You may know Renee Rapp from the Mean Girls Broadway musical, where she played Regina for the first time. As for Christopher Bricey, he is well known for his role in The Summer I Turned Pretty, playing Conrad Fisher. Finally, as for the cherry on top, Tina Fey and Tim Meadows reappear in the musical adaptation starring as Ms. Norbury and Principal Duvall once again.

What exactly is the soundtrack going to be for this film?

As said previously, it is known that the soundtrack is very similar to the soundtrack in the 2017 musical. For example, it will include songs such as “Meet the Plastics,” which is sung by Renee Rapp (Regina George), “What If’s,” sung by Angourie Rice (Cady Heron), and “What’s Wrong With Me,” which is sung by Bebe Wood (Gretchen Wieners).

When will the film be available to stream?

Mean Girls will be able to be streamed on November 24, 2024 on HBO Max, as of right now.

Will this be worth watching?

This question is entirely up to you! If you enjoy spending your time watching Broadway musicals, as well as the singing and dancing that comes with it, there’s a high chance that you will enjoy it. However, if you prefer the original Mean Girls movie and its lack of musical elements, then this musical adaptation might come off as a disappointment to you.

Overall, if you end up watching the new movie, I hope you enjoy it nevertheless and let me know if you think it was better or worse than the original movie starring Lindsay Lohan and Rachel McAdams.
