IU’s New Single Breaks the Internet

It can be confidently said that IU, a South Korean singer and actor, has captivated the audience with her new single, “Love Wins All.” Her new single reached more than 33 million views in just five days on YouTube and has been adored by the public. The song has garnered praise for its unique sound and style that fuses traditional Korean instrumentals with contemporary beats and for its amazing music video. The theme of overcoming societal constraints to love freely has resonated with audiences worldwide. The success of “Love Wins All” is evident not only in its radio play but also in its music video and chart rankings.

“Love Wins All” has broken numerous records since its release on January 23. According to Soompi, it debuted at No.1 on South Korea’s Gaon Digital Chart and has remained there ever since as of February 1. The song also earned a perfect score on the Gaon weekly score chart, which is a rare achievement for any track. Furthermore, “Love Wins All” has received the certified title of “Perfect All-Kill” on the iChart, which indicates that it has simultaneously taken the top spot on all major South Korean music charts including Melon’s Daily and Top 100 charts. According to Pinkvilla, the song has received 1 million streams on Spotify and dominates the global iTunes charts. This accolade is a testament to the song’s popularity and highlights the impact of IU’s song throughout the world.

The music video for “Love Wins All” further emphasizes the song’s central message of love and acceptance. It presents a series of scenes involving two main characters living in a dystopian society where AI threatens to take over the world. In the music video, Kim Tae-hyung (also known as V from the famous band BTS) is introduced as the male protagonist, while IU herself plays the female protagonist. The video follows the storyline of IU being deaf and Kim being blind in one eye while they continue to try to stay alive. Despite the dark circumstances, however, they can make the best of each other’s company and have one last dance before they succumb to the inevitable death by the AI.  The dark, melancholic visuals complement the song’s message and elevate its emotional impact, making it an instant favorite among fans. The underlying message is evident: Love is a uniquely human trait that is unyielding even in the face of the most challenging situations.

“Love Wins All”, as well as creating the collaboration between IU and BTS’ V, has set a new standard for Korean music by displaying the beauty of fusing traditional sounds with a modern twist. Fans can look forward to future collaborations between them as both artists have expressed their enthusiasm to work together again in the future. Her album is planned to be released on February 20 and with this song only being a pre-release single, a lot more can be expected to come.
