The Annual Madrigals Performance: A Holiday Cabaret

Serenity Cray, Staff Writer

Prepare for a fun night of festive songs and delicious food at this year’s annual Madrigals performance. The Holiday Cabaret will take place Saturday, December 16th, 2017 at 7 P.M in the school’s cafeteria. The Madrigals performance was introduced at the school in 1985 by longtime music teacher, Mrs. Susan Tall. A madrigal is a musical form that was written in the 1500s during the Renaissance period. The event features songs that are sure to get you in the holiday spirit.

This year’s Madrigals performance will have a creative and fun twist that has never been done before. The event will consist of an all-girls choir called the Madri-Gals. Along with the female choir, the school’s talented orchestra and jazz band will make an appearance to perform some holiday classics.

Madrigals Performance 2015

“This year we will still have food, tables, candlelight, and a very fancy set up but with contemporary music along with the traditional Madrigal songs. The jazz band and orchestra are going to play, which is a completely new thing this year,” said Mr. Jim Millar, music teacher and head coordinator of the Madrigals performance. The performance showcases the student’s cheerful and festive spirit during the month of the holidays.

The choir is set to perform both Renaissance and classical holiday songs. The main theme song, “Wassail,” is a Christmas carol that dates back to the 12th century. The showcase will also include some holiday favorites like “Jingle Bells,” “Silent Night,” and “We Wish You a Merry Christmas.” “Anyone who attends the event will definitely be put in a festive mood with all the singing and amazing food,” said Alika Saxena (‘19), who is performing in Madrigals for her second year in a row.
