The Simpsons and Fortnite: a popular TV series and an exciting video game. Recently, Fortnite collaborated with The Simpsons to make their new mini-season. Various changes are seen throughout the game.
One of the most prominent changes is the redesign of the map. The original Fortnite map had maintained a somewhat realistic design, but for The Simpsons season, the whole map transformed into a cartoon, mirroring the Simpson world. Although we miss the old, realistic map, it was interesting to play inside a famous cartoon. The map features various iconic locations from the show, such as Springfield Nuclear Power Plant, Evergreen Terrace, and Kamp Krusty. The Springfield Nuclear Power Plant and Camp Krusty are great drop spots for loot and they are active spots for those who enjoy quick combat. However, if you prefer to loot up and then fight, we would not recommend dropping in an actual named location, as they tend to get busy and full with advanced players. An alternative early on in the game would be to head to unknown locations, like the mountains, and balloon drops. Balloon drops have great weapons and loot. Next, you should head out to the popular locations for additional loot and combat others once you are prepared. This strategy has been efficient for us, helping us avoid intense combat too early before we are properly prepared. The theme music has also been updated, featuring the iconic Simpsons theme song.
Another minor change is the Fortnite Battle Bus transportation into the map. The entire transition changed, presenting the view of the bus like an introduction to a TV show. Traditionally, we would enter the game with an overhead perspective of the map. It is unfamiliar and slightly strange, since we typically expect to see the map as soon as we enter the game. However, it is a minor change that is not too bothersome.
There was also a notable change in the weapons. The first thing that disappointed us was the lack of snipers. There used to be a variety of snipers with scope, making it fun to look for players on the hills. However, this season only offers different rifles which have no scope. Due to the lack of snipers, long distance shooting is no longer engaging or easy. Another issue with the weapons this season is that the holo-twister (the best AR in our opinion) was vaulted. However, the striker AR is a decent substitution for that, as it has a good fire rate and range. The striker AR only lacks scope. In addition to the striker AR, the tactical shotgun returned, which was an OG shotgun, with a wide range. It was exciting to see an original weapon return, and its wide range makes aiming easy and simple. The other shotguns, Thunder and Ranger, do a great deal of damage. However, this can also be a bad thing. Paired with the significant amount of damage and the increasing skil level of players, securing a Victory Royale is tremendously challenging. For example, we found ourselves eliminated after only two shots, despite having full health and shield, but perhaps that is merely a skill issue on our end.
A noteworthy defensive weapon is Jebediah’s protective helm. It blocks a headshot, saving players’ lives. This is likely one of the most useful defense items in the game. However, players are limited to only one use per game. We would recommend picking one of these up for additional defense.
As a whole, this new season offers a mix of strengths and weaknesses. The new weapons are enjoyable, but lack the benefits from some of the old weapons such as the holo twister and scope snipers. The redesigned map, with its cartoon graphics and Simpsons music, makes the whole experience entertaining and unique. The iconic locations from the TV series are fun to explore and use as battlegrounds. We would say this season is worth the play, but it is definitely not the strongest one to date.
