The second leg of the Champions Round of 16 was full of many surprises, and many great matches. Here is a recap of the second leg:

Manchester United Vs. Sevilla 1-2 (1-2 aggregate)

Manchester United took a huge upset to a Sevilla club that played a hard fought match. Sevilla was dominant over the ball, and Ben Yedder scored two crucial goals not even 3 minutes apart to give Sevilla the edge over Manchester United. Romelu Lukaku was the one bright spot for a rather poor United side, scoring their only goal. Sevilla now play a very strong Bayern Munich team, and most likely will be eliminated from the tournament.

Manchester City Vs. FC Basel 1-2 (5-2 aggregate)

Another shock for a Manchester club. Manchester City got beat at home by a club you’d never expect to defeat the Premier League giants. Manchester City will advance, but this match shows how such a small club can defeat anybody. Manchester City will advance to face Liverpool, and their star attacker Mohamed Salah, who is currently considered the best player in the world.

Liverpool Vs. Porto 0-0 (5-0 aggregate)

This match was quite boring, as much more was expected from Liverpool’s previous 5-0 victory in Portugal. Liverpool played well but couldn’t find the back of the net. Porto was decent, but the club had almost no chance of coming back. Now Liverpool will advance once more, and face a tough Manchester City squad soon. These two clubs are very strong, and this matchup is quite the battle.

FC Barcelona Vs. Chelsea 3-0 (4-1 Aggregate)

Lionel Messi shined again, scoring two goals and giving one assist in an amazing display from FC Barcelona. Chelsea did play well, but couldn’t handle Messi’s brilliance. Thibaut Courtois, Chelsea’s goalkeeper, let two of Messi’s goals go through his legs, which is terrible considering how great of a player he is. Ousmane Dembele scored an amazing goal for Barcelona, and Chelsea was unable to answer back with any goals of its own. Barcelona now will play Roma, a club it should beat.

PSG Vs. Real Madrid 1-2 (2-5 aggregate)

The Paris club couldn’t handle Cristiano Ronaldo and Real Madrid in a hard fought battle. Unfortunately for PSG, Neymar—it’s star player—was injured. Madrid dominated both games, with some amazing goals from Ronaldo and Casemiro. Real Madrid now matches up with Juventus, and will have a rematch of last year’s Champions League Final.

Besiktas Vs. Bayern 1-3 (1-8 aggregate)

Bayern once again dominated the Turkish club with a great win. With an own-goal scored by a Besiktas player, Bayern was able to close out and finally advance to the elite 8. Thiago and Wagner each scored goals for Bayern as well in a great game for the “German Giants.” They now face a weak Sevilla side, and should most definitely advance once again.

Roma Vs. Shakhtar 1-0 (2-2 aggregate) (Roma win on away goals)

Roma barely slid through a quite weak Shakhtar team, only winning off of an away goal. They played very well at home, and Edin Dzeko scored a crucial goal in order for Roma to win. Shakhtar was dominant over Roma, with an astounding 63% possession. Unfortunately for the club, Roma struck first, and Shakhtar lost one of their players to a red card as well.

Tottenham Vs. Juventus  1-2 (3-4 aggregate)

Juventus made an amazing comeback against a great Premier League side in Tottenham. The club was down 3-1 on aggregate after Heung-Min Son scored the first goal of the second leg. Gonzalo Higuain of Juventus scored a goal early in the second half, and then Paulo Dybala scored a goal 3 minutes after, giving Juventus the lead in the aggregate. They came, they scored, and they conquered. Juventus has a tough matchup against Real Madrid, and even though the club is very strong, they may fall to “Los Blancos” once again.
