Round One of 2024 NFL Draft

Round One of 2024 NFL Draft

The first round of the NFL draft is officially behind us.

On Thursday, April 25, Detroit hosted the 2024 NFL draft. Football fans came from all over the country to support their beloved teams and to see who will be the newest members of them.

The number one prospect of the NFL draft was USC quarterback Caleb Williams. As we all expected, the Bears, who had the number one overall pick this year, due to a trade with the Carolina Panthers last year, drafted first overall the USC quarterback.

The Patriots, who had the third pick in the draft, were open to trading the pick away. One team that was willing to trade into this position was the New York Giants. The

Giants had the sixth pick in the draft but were projected to pick LSU wide receiver Malik Nabers. But the Giants weren’t 100% yet. They were conflicted between Nabers and UNC quarterback Drake Maye. Maye was going to go to the Patriots if no team would have traded for their pick. However, the Patriots were asking too much for the pick and nobody was able to do the trade with them. So the Patriots drafted Maye at three and the Giants drafted Nabers at six.

The Atlanta Falcons had the eighth pick. During the offseason, the Falcons signed former Vikings quarterback Kirk Cousins. Cousins has a contract of four years, $180 million making about $45 million a year. The Falcons were projected to draft Dallas Turner, who was an edge tackle out of Alabama. But, no, the Falcons surprised every NFL fan by drafting a quarterback who was supposed to be a second-round pick. The drafted quarterback was Michael Penix, Jr. out of Washington. This left everyone questioning the reason for signing Cousins. Could the Atlanta Falcons be up to something?

Did the returning Superbowl champions have the biggest draft steal of the night? The Kansas City Chiefs had the twenty-eighth pick of the night, which they had received with a trade by the Buffalo Bills. The Chiefs drafted a wide receiver out of Texas, Xavier Worthy. Worthy ran the fastest 40-yard dash in the NFL, with a time of 4.21 seconds. Patrick Mahomes, Chiefs quarterback, used to have Tyreek Hill, who is known as the fastest player in the league. Mahomes and Hill used to be one of the best duos in the league. Could this be the same with speedy, Xavier Worthy?

With the first round of the 2024 NFL draft, there are some clear winners, and than there are also some clear losers. The second and third rounds of the draft will take place on Friday April 26th. The remaining for rounds will be on the following Saturday. For the teams that didn’t do so well in the first round of the draft, do you think they can turn it around and make the best out of the next rounds?
