Thanksgiving is the holiday of gratitude, family, and best of all, food. From stuffing to sweet pumpkin pies, the options for Thanksgiving are elite, so here are some of our favorite dishes!
1. Pie
We both have always had a sweet tooth, and nothing satisfies our palates quite like a good pie. Its creamy insides and hard outside texture bring a sweet and tangy flavor that everyone can enjoy! And while all pie is delicious, below is how we rank the flavors:
- Pumpkin Pie
Pumpkin pie is a classic, which is the perfect pie for late autumn. Its sweet, dense interior with the hard shell just gives that comforting flavor we love so much.
- Apple Pie
The flavor is sweet and juicy, and it is almost the perfect pie (behind pumpkin pie). When made to perfection, it combines sour green apples with sweet ingredients, creating a familiar classic American flavor that brings happiness to everyone
- Pecan Pie
Pecan is a neat necessity, and the texture is what really brings this pie to life. The crispy shell and nuts, combined with the sweet, gooey cream, make a perfect combination. There are also many ways you can mix pecan pie with other types of pie, like chocolate pecan pie, maple pecan pie, or others.
- Sweet Potato Pie
Sweet potato pie is good; however, it cannot compete with the pies above, as they offer more interesting flavors and special spices.
2. Mac and Cheese
Mac and Cheese on any occasion is amazing, so having it at Thanksgiving makes the holiday that much better. The creamy cheese mixed with a pasta noodle of choice just makes this dish a staple. The best part is that each person can have their own recipes and variations, providing a diverse taste with each new Mac and Cheese dish.
3.Turkey
Turkey, the symbol of Thanksgiving, isn’t just a symbol; it is also a perfect dish to enjoy with the various Thanksgiving sides. Turkey can be stuffed with a variety of ingredients, such as vegetables, rice, and cornbread, to add moisture and flavor. The wishbone is also a fun tradition during Thanksgiving. Turkeys have a V-shaped bone, which is referred to as the “wish bone.” Two people pull on opposite ends of the bone while making a wish; it is rumored that whoever pulls the larger half will have their wish come true.
4. Cranberry Sauce
The combination of the tart Cranberry fruit and the added sugars is to die for. Cranberry sauce is a great addition to the Thanksgiving table, as it can be added to various dishes, both sweet and savory. And, if you have leftover cranberry sauce, feel free to throw it in a pie crust for a bonus pie!
5. Roasted Brussels Sprouts
While there are a lot of Thanksgiving foods that we love, there are certainly some bad options too, and at the top of that list has to be Brussels sprouts. The lack of original flavor and the weird sensation of rusty broccoli make this vegetable the least favorite food. Unfortunately, my (Veronica) whole family loves them, so I am often forced to eat them as I choke down my sobs.
Now, after discussing some of the more traditional Thanksgiving dishes, we want to share our favorite Thanksgiving food, which is a specific tradition for our respective families.
Anay:
My family loves to eat Lasagna. My entire family is vegetarian, so we substitute turkey for lasagna. My mother’s delicious recipe is almost too good—within seconds of being set on the table, it is gone. I understand that it isn’t generally made on Thanksgiving, but I strongly believe everyone should bring a lasagna to their Thanksgiving this year. Its cheesy texture, full of Italian spice and charm, gives it a special taste and aroma that is incomparable.
Veronica:
Every Thanksgiving, my family visits our family friends in Brooklyn, and they prepare a traditional Thanksgiving feast. My family is charged with the responsibility of bringing dessert, so instead of a pie, we make a large fruit tart, which has become a family favorite. The sweetness of the cake and the sourness of the fruits provide an amazing balance of flavors..
Whether you agree or disagree with our ranking, we hope you have a great Thanksgiving and eat lots of delicious food. Happy Thanksgiving!
